Preliminary results of class survey

Dear [first_name],

We're happy to share the preliminary and still very raw results of the class survey, to which 333 of you - roughly 1/3 of surviving classmates - so generously responded. (Some classmates did not reply to all questions.) You can download the results here.

We apologize for both the length and the unpolished nature of the survey results, but thought many of you would like to see at least a first cut of the data at reunion time rather than months later.

Unfortunately, given the lengthy delay encountered in getting the survey posted on Harvard's survey software, there simply hasn't been time to reduce the sheer volume of responses by first coding and then tabulating open ended responses, or to perform any significant correlation analyses. If there seems to be interest, we will try over the summer to enhance both the content and the appearance of the report and to email a more polished end result by fall.

As often occurs with surveys, some results are unsurprising while others are quite striking. Initially, you may want to scroll fairly quickly through the attachment, largely skipping over those pages that simply record the raw, uncoded comments from individuals. You can then return to the questions dealing with topics that pique your interest, and spend a little more time with them.

To us, at least, the responses make for very interesting reading. We hope most of you will have similar reactions. And many thanks again to everyone who took the time to participate!

Your 55th Reunion Committee
