The Class of 1961 Celebration Association (CCA)

Class of 1961 2022 In-Person Celebration

Dear 1961 Classmate:

You knew we were facing some headwinds, especially the lack of HAA funding for insurance, and HAA’s campus access, as well as our own understandable reluctance to embrace financial risk in the Class Treasury.  Therefore, 1) creating a separate legal entity and 2) undertaking the challenges of obtaining Seed Capital, as insurance against any potential shortfall of Celebration income over expense, were naturally the obstacles which we have now faced, and feel will be fully overcome.

To meet the fundamental challenge of financial risk, we set up The Class of 1961 Celebration Association (CCA).  It has been duly registered, and we have opened our checking account at Cambridge Trust.  We now have eight Directors.  They include Tom Blodgett, Chair, Josh Young, Vice Chair, Joan Hutchins, Vice Chair, Peter Strauss, Sam Hopkins, Bill Gallagher, Doug Lind, and Mark DeVoto.  There is no conflict with respect to governance with the Class Committee or the Class Constitution, because of  thoughtful guidance of Peter Ellis, our newly elected Class Treasurer, who will be succeeding Dave Larkin, who, after his wonderful 40 years of stewardship, is stepping down.  And Josh Young was also duly elected yesterday, to pick up the Harvard Vice Chair responsibility left behind by Newell Flather.

Peter has overseen the proposed positioning, for now, that although CCA is set up as a non-profit, it will not offer the option of tax-deductible donations.  Nevertheless, the capital it retains after the 2022 Celebration will be donated exclusively to Harvard whenever the CCA Entity is dissolved, according to its By-Laws.

Here is the schedule for the 2022 In-Person Celebration.
