Your 1961 Class Host Spencer Jourdain Invites you to
A Tour of Massachusetts History
Whaling, Colonial & Native American Life
Wednesday and Thursday, October 4 and 5, 2023
You may take either or both days of the Tour. We will gather in the Charles Hotel Lobby, then Drive to selected Massachusetts Historic Locations. At various times, Jourdain Family Members will share their Stories.
If you prefer to drive directly from home, you can join the Tour at the Black Whale Parking Lot on Thursday or the Plimouth Patuxet Parking Lot on Friday.
Wednesday, October 4th
Wednesday, October 4th, 8:00-8:15: Charles Hotel. Drivers depart at 8:15 am.
9:45-11:15 am: New Bedford Whaling Museum, https://www.whalingmuseum.org/ 18 Johnny Cake Hill, Artifacts of the whaling industry and the diversity of New Bedford culture. Guided tour from 10:00 to 11:00.
11:15-12:00 pm: Walking Tour of the Historic Harbor area including the Seaman’s Bethel, Mariner's Home and Historical Park., with Jourdain Family Member Presentation .
12:00-1:30: Lunch at historic Black Whale restaurant, with a great seafood à la carte menu. Jourdain Family preview of Historic Tour and Presentation of New Bedford history.
1:45-2:45 pm: Driving Tour of 3 Historic Locations, 17 Captain's Mansions, and 7 more Historic Locations, with commentary on Black History. An Illustrated Guidebook is available. We'll have a conference call narrative between the cars.
2:45-3:15 Personal Exploration, Final Shopping and Conversations.
3:15-5:00 Drivers depart for Cambridge or Home.
6:00-9:00 Elegant À la Carte Dining at a Cambridge Restaurant for all History Tour Participants.
Thursday, October 5th
We will gather at 8:15 am in the Charles Hotel Lobby to board a bus and visit Plimouth Patuxet. At each point, Jourdain family members will share their stories.
Day Two: Thursday, October 5th, 8:00-8:15: Pre-Check-out at Charles Hotel.
8:30: Drivers depart from the Charles Hotel, or from their homes, to Plimouth Patuxet.
9:45-11:10 am: Plimouth Patuxet. 137 Warren Ave. https://plimoth.org/ Guided Tour from 10:00 to 11:00 of Colonial and Wampanoag Villages.
11:00-11:30: Explore the Exhibits at your leisure
11:30-12:15 Mayflower Replica. Drive two miles to tour a full-scale reproduction of the Mayflower.
12:30-1:45: Lunch at The New World Tavern, 56 Main Street, Plymouth, MA. Jourdain family member presentation.
1:45-2:15: Drive back to Patuxet. Shopping and Sightseeing, then drive to Grist Mill.
2:30-3:00 Grist Mill. Exploration and Tour. Grand Finale. Awards.
3:15-4:15 Drivers depart for Cambridge or Home.
4:30 Departure from the Charles Hotel to the airport for those with flights to catch.
